Annoucement of Funds to be donated

Frontline Defence Services , through the Have a Coffee Help a mate appeal, will donate $60,031.00 to the respective Army and Air Force Trust Funds to aid personnel who were affected by the south east Queensland Floods.

The $60,031 amount is representative of 10% of sales from the week of the appeal as well as donations from Frontline Suppliers and members of the public who were unable to access a Frontline or Australian Commercial Catering outlet to be involved.

Through out the week of the appeal, bases around the country saw an influx of support for those that had lost everything in the floods.

The highest sales were seen at Robertson Barracks, from which $6500 will be donated.

While every outlet saw great levels of participation, some highlights were:

Oakey Army Aviation Centre Frontline hosted a Big Breakfast morning.  A total of 51 Big Breakfasts were made in a 2 hour period and 115 cups of coffee were sold in the same timeframe.  The line for service on that morning snaked out the door with a great atmosphere in the outlet.

RAAF Base Townsville hosted the Townsville Coffee Van at the Wirraway Club on Friday afternoon and had a great turn out from both personnel and support staff alike.

RAAF Base Amberley kicked off the week with a visit from SADFO WGCDR Clive Wells having a coffee with the Frontline Canteen Manager Alan Moy

And also at RAAF Base Amberley, 40 members for 9FSB enjoyed a coffee at the outlet on Tuesday morning.  Some personnel from 9FSB were directly affected by the floods so the battalion was keen to help out any way they could.

Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Joni Edson said “The Frontline Defence Services Have a Coffee Help a mate appeal has been a fantastic opportunity for the Army and Air Force Canteen Service to do what it is designed to do:  that is to support Army and Air Force personnel and their families through the sale of goods and the provision of services on Army and Air Force establishments.

This appeal turned out to be a great success, with many personnel, support staff and dependants all banding together and getting involved to help their mates recover from the south east Queensland floods.

Frontline Defence Services is proud to be able to add the “Have a coffee help a mate” appeal to our proud 95 year history of supporting our soldiers and airmen. We wish those families in need all the very best and hope that our modest contribution will make some difference to those who receive the assistance. “

Planning is in place for late August for the official presentation of the cheque to Army and Air Force Representatives by the Frontline Defence Services Board.

Have a coffee - Help a mate

The south east Queensland floods in January 2011 affected many thousands of people. While the ground may have dried out, the impact is still being felt by many individual and families. As we have read in the media, many householders were not in receipt of insurance payments and as such all they have received by way of financial assistance is whatever was offered under federal and state government assistance packages. The level of damage to some homes was so significant that even with these payments; families are finding it very difficult to recover from their losses.

In the Ipswich and Amberley area, there are a number of Army and Air Force families who remain in need of additional assistance to get back on their feet. As an integral part of the Army and Air Force community, the Army and Air Force Canteen Service trading as Frontline Defence Services will do its part in assisting these families recovery from the disaster.

The Have a coffee – Help a mate appeal is part of a force wide appeal being set up by Chiefs of Army and Air Force to assist these personnel. Frontline Defence Services and Australian Commercial Catering canteens, will for one week, donate 10% of all retail sales to the Army and Air Force to distribute to those that have been affected by the floods.

The Chief of the Army and The Chief of the Air Force released statements

How can you help?

All Frontline Defence Services and Australian Commercial Catering canteens will be involved in this appeal.

During the week of 30 May - 4th June, visit your local on base canteen and purchase a coffee, a meal or anything else in store and 10% of the sale will be donated back to those in need of assistance.

We know that the Army and Air Force communities are at our best when we need to help out our mates in times of trouble and hardship and this week will be the chance for you to assist those that are still suffering.

Some Key Questions:

" I can not access a Defence Base, can I still get involved?"

This appeal is being run by Frontline Defence Services, who solely operate canteens on Army and Air Force bases throughout Australia. Unfortunately, if you are not able to access an Army or Air Force base with the correct pass or are not a spouse or dependant of a serving member, you are unable to access our services.

However, through arrangement with Everyman's Welfare Service from Monday 30th May - 4th June, you can make a tax deducible donation that will go directly back to this appeal and will go directly to those Army and Air Force Personnel who were affected by the floods.

Everyman's Welfare Service trace their history of serving the Australian Defence force back to 1936 and continue their services today by providing a Philanthropic support service. Donations through the Everyman's Welfare Service site are tax deducible for all donations over $2.00

Please note: The donation section on the Everyman's website for this appeal will be available from Monday 30th May - 4th June.

"How is the money being given to Army and Air Force families directly?"

This is what was currently on the website: As Frontline Defence Services is a Government Statutory Authority, within the Defence Force, we are providing back a % of our weekly sales directly to Army and Air Force welfare trust funds to disburse the funds to those families who have been identified through welfare as being in need of assistance. Frontline Defence Services will play no part in the distribution of funds
