FRONTLINE DEFENCE SERVICES “HAVE A COFFEE HELP A MATE APPEAL” RAISED OVER $60,031 FOR ARMY AND AIR FORCE PERSONNEL

Frontline Defence Services ,through the Have a Coffee Help a mate appeal, will donate $60,031.00 to the respective Army and Air Force Trust Funds to aid personnel who were affected by the south east Queensland Floods.

The $60,031 amount is representative of 10% of sales from the week of the appeal as well as donations from Frontline Suppliers and members of the public who were unable to access a Frontline or Australian Commercial Catering outlet to be involved.

Through out the week of the appeal, bases around the country saw an influx of support for those that had lost everything in the floods.

The highest sales were seen at Robertson Barracks, from which $6500 will be donated.

While every outlet saw great levels of participation, some highlights were:

  •  Oakey Army Aviation Centre Frontline hosted a Big Breakfast morning.  A total of 51 Big Breakfasts were made in a 2 hour period and 115 cups of coffee were sold in the same timeframe.  The line for service on that morning snaked out the door with a great atmosphere in the outlet
  •  RAAF Base Townsville hosted the Townsville Coffee Van at the Wirraway Club on Friday afternoon and had a great turn out from both personnel and support staff alike.
  • RAAF Base Amberley kicked off the week with a visit from SADFO WGCDR Clive Wells having a coffee with the Frontline Canteen Manager Alan Moy
  • And also at RAAF Base Amberley, 40 members for 9FSB enjoyed a coffee at the outlet on Tuesday morning.  Some personnel from 9FSB were directly affected by the floods so the battalion was keen to help out any way they could.

Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Joni Edson said “The Frontline Defence Services Have a Coffee Help a mate appeal has been a fantastic opportunity for the Army and Air Force Canteen Service to do what it is designed to do:  that is to support Army and Air Force personnel and their families through the sale of goods and the provision of services on Army and Air Force establishments.

This appeal turned out to be a great success, with many personnel, support staff and dependants all banding together and getting involved to help their mates recover from the south eastQueenslandfloods.

Frontline Defence Services is proud to be able to add the “Have a coffee help a mate” appeal to our proud 95 year history of supporting our soldiers and airmen. We wish those families in need all the very best and hope that our modest contribution will make some difference to those who receive the assistance. “

Planning is in place for late August for the official presentation of the cheque to Army and Air Force Representatives by the Frontline Defence Services Board.

Have a coffee – help a mate appeal just two weeks away

The Queensland floods in January 2011 impacted on many thousands of people.

Three quarters of the state was declared a disaster zone; 37 people died; three remain listed as missing; and flood restoration and reconstruction costs are estimated at more than $5 billion.

Despite federal and state government assistance packages, individuals and families continue to find it very difficult to recover from their losses since many of them are not in receipt of insurance payments.

A number of Army and Air Force families in the Ipswich and Amberley areas remain in need of additional assistance in their flood recovery.

The Chief of Army and The Chief of Air Force have commenced a force wide appeal looking at ways of raising funds that can be used to assist those affected personnel.

From the 30th May – 4th June, Frontline Defence Services will donate 10% of all retail sales made at all canteens on Army and Air Force bases to assist these families recovery effort.

The Frontline “Help a mate in need” appeal asks all Army and Air Force members to go to their local Frontline Defence Services or Australian Commercial Catering canteen and purchase a coffee and a meal with the knowledge that they are helping to assist their mates who are struggling to recover from the affects of the Queensland floods.

Support from both the Chief of the Army and Chief of the Air Force has been expressed encouraging their personnel on all bases to get involved.

“I encourage all personnel to show their spirit of mateship. By participating in the joint Army, Air Force and Frontline ‘Have a Coffee – Help a Mate’ campaign, you will go along way in helping out our colleagues and their families who were directly affected by the floods.” The Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Gillespie said.

Chief of the Air Force AIRMSHL Binksin said “Our colleagues and their families need our help and this is an easy way to help through this initiative”

Frontline Defence Services is encouraging Community Groups, Sporting Clubs and units on base to head down to their local outlet show their support.

“We would love to see photos from all bases nationally, where members are getting involved and showing their support. A gallery of photos will be hosted on the Frontline Defence Services website from the 30th May” said Joni Edson,

Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Frontline Defence Services.

Regular information during the event week will be posted through the Frontline

Defence services website, www.frontlineds.com.au/helpamate.php and will also

be updated on The Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force facebook

pages.

Frontline continues our proud history of support

Frontline Defence Services (the trading name of the Army and Air Force Canteen Service) continues their 95 years of services and support to the Army and Air Force communities with the launch of the “Have a coffee – Help a mate” appeal.

This appeal is part of a force wide appeal commenced by the Chiefs of Army and Air Force designed to raise vital funds for those serving members who were affected by the south east Queensland floods.

More than 40 members and their families in the Amberley and Ipswich areas have been greatly affected by the south east Queensland floods.

As has been reported in the media, many householders were not in receipt of insurance payments and as such all they have received by way of financial assistance is whatever was offered under federal and state government assistance packages.

The level of damage to some homes was so significant that even with these payments; families are finding it very difficult to recover from their losses.

“Frontline Defence Services, in conjunction with the Army and Air Force, recognize that these floods impacted on many serving personnel” said Joni Edson, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Frontline Defence Services

“For 95 years, the canteen services have worked as a charitable arm of the forces.  The purpose of all canteen funds since 1915 has been to provide funds, through the sale of food, grocery and alcohol, back to the Army and Air Force communities and we are proud to continue that tradition today”

Frontline Defence Services traces their history back to the first A.I.F Canteen Service, which was created in 1915 and served the troops throughout Australia, The Middle East and Egypt.

The canteen services were responsible for generating funds to be provided to welfare that would then distribute over £ 3.4 million pounds in grants to widows and children of deceased war veterans post World War II.

In the period between 1996 and 2005 a total of $6.2 million was provided directly back to bases for RTF, Unit and Base Welfare as well as sponsorship and support for community and sporting groups.

Today, Frontline’s support continues in the way of the managed vending solutions, which in 2010 provided back over $230,000 to units, welfare and community group’s nation wide as well as direct sponsorship to sporting clubs, community groups and base welfare.

“The “Have a coffee – help a mate” appeal is just one of the ways that we are able to continue our support and assistance to the Army and Air Force communities” said Joni.

The appeal will run in all Frontline Defence Services and Australian Commercial Catering canteens from the 30th May – 4th June 2011.

During this week, Frontline Defence Services will pass back 10% of all retail sales to the Army and Air Force for distribution to those flood affected members.

Further information will be available leading up to the appeal week at www.frontlineds.com.au/helpamate.php   or through Frontline’s facebook page www.facebook.com/FrontlineDefenceServices
